Woodfired Dogwood Pinched Mini/Shot sized Teacup 2.5oz

$48.00
sold out

Dogwoods in bloom wrap around the surface of this woodfired shot glass teacup. The piece was made entirely in the hand, without the wheel, as a means of physical therapy for Jessica as she was trying to regain her sense of touch and retrain her fingers. Each piece was made in intervals of 10 seconds, the maximum amount of time that she could work on pottery in the beginning.

The dogwoods speak of the wild and natural beauty of the south, blooming in the understory where other flowers and trees struggle to thrive. It is a metaphor for strength and resilience in the face of the impossible. The ash softens and distorts part of the imagery, the mark of the firing leaving its trace upon the drawing.

The interior is beautiful, crystally blue with hints of pale lavender, reminding us of ice and snow, and the exterior is toasty with the colors of wood firing, flame and ash curling around the surface.

All pieces are made by hand, and have the traces of being touched and formed on them - soft unevenness, gently waving rim, drawings made directly on the surface. We hope you’ll prize the “imperfections” that make them truly human like we do.
