Woodfired Turk's Cap Lilies Pinched Teacup 8oz *Heavy Ash

$85.00
sold out

Lilies twist and turn across the surface of this woodfired teacup. The piece was made entirely in the hand, without the wheel, as a means of physical therapy for Jessica as she was trying to regain her sense of touch and retrain her fingers. Each piece was made in intervals of 10 seconds, the maximum amount of time that she could work on pottery in the beginning. I chose to draw these flowers because of their unique petals that curl upwards, their individuality and their quirkiness. The ash has blended with the drawing, softening it to the point of seeming like it’s melting down the surface of the pot. Although this isn’t for everyone, it truly retains the mark of how it was made.

The interior is beautiful, crystally blue, reminding us of ice and snow.

All pieces are made by hand, and have the traces of being touched and formed on them - soft unevenness, gently waving rim, drawings made directly on the surface. We hope you’ll prize the “imperfections” that make them truly human like we do.

This little cutie has a little of everything…crisp graphic details on the flashed side of the pot and softened, almost impressionistic color shifts on the heavily ash-coated firebox side. Extra heat encouraged the dolomite glaze to pool in the bottom of the cup like crackled ice and crystals formed in the glaze like snowflakes.
